Lupi & Wilma Ciaglia from Natal Region recently took a short holiay inland and have sent us the following report and photographs. It make one realize what a beautiful country we live in!!

Holiday Day 1

Well christmas has come and gone and our pants size seem to have got a little smaller - or is it that our waistlines have slightly increased in size. Well, Wilma and I decided to take 2 weeks off, hitched up our van and headed up-country.

On our first day we travelled as far as Weenen and decided to overnight at the Weenen Game Reserve.

This park has 12 sites, all with electricity, grassed and shaded by Thorn Trees. The camp sites are well maintained. The only drawback is that there is only 1 water tap that is situated at the Ablution Block. Folk, like us, who are far from the ablution block find it a schlep to fetch water. The ablutions are very basic but clean. All in all it is a grat stopover en route to the inland.

The office gave us a long list of the animalsin the park but I wouldn't recommend it to the die-hard wild life enthusiast as all we saw on a game drive was a few Zebra, a yellow-billed Kite and a Koran. What did really turn me on was the drive. The road through the park winds through some really beautiful and interesting country side.

To anyone visiting this park you must ensure you are stocked with basic provisions. If you think you can just quickly pop in to Weenen for something you have forgotten, you have a shock in store. Weenen is the saddest town I have ever come across. It is derelict and in a sad stte. It looks like it's inhabitants just got up and left. Even Ponta D'Ora in Mozambique has more to offer.

Here are some photo's of our stay in the park.

Holiday Day 2

Today we got up at sunrise and took a drive through the reserve and we were luckier than yesterday. We saw quite a lot of wildlife including Zebra, Giraffe, Hartebees, Rhino, Eland and Kudu.

Beside the wildlife this is the most senic Park I have ever experienced.

Our next stop was Pringles in Harrismith. The park is situated behind the Engen garage right next to the freeway. Although the park is rather pleasant, it is strictly an overnight park and not a place for your annual holiday. It is completely grassed with power points on every site and has a great view of the Harrismith "Table Mountain".

The upside of this park is that if you have had a heavy dayon the road there are about 8 restaurants right on your doorstep!!

Here are some more photos.

For those going to Gauteng, Protea Suikerbosrand Resort near Henley on Klip is a great park - especially for those with little kids. The park has 240 shaded grassed sites and the ablutions are top class.

The resort adjoins the Suikerbosrand nature reserve which is well worth a visit.
